Hessel Park Church is part of the Christian Reformed Church of North America denomination. While we see ourselves as connected with all Christians worldwide at all times, this is the particular group of churches that we affiliate with in North America.
What We Believe
As a Christian Reformed Church we are:
Christian because we belong to Jesus Christ and desire to be his followers. We recognize as fellow-Christians all people who accept the teachings of the Bible as summarized in the Apostle's Creed.
Reformed because we're part of that historic branch of the Christian church that follows the teachings of 16th-century reformers, who worked to connect Christianity with its biblical roots.
Church because God has called us to be a fellowship of his people in the world.
What is distinctive about the Christian Reformed Church?
The denominational emblem—a cross in a triangle—symbolizes who we are. The triangle represents the Trinity, our belief in the one God we know as three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The cross symbolizes our belief in Jesus Christ's sacrificial death on the cross for our salvation. Beyond these basic Christian beliefs:
We believe that all of life is governed by our faith. Not only on Sunday but also every day of the week our faith helps us make the important decisions of our life. Things like whom we marry, how we do our work, how we study this world in our schools—all of these things should be influenced by our faith and understanding of God's word.
We are genuinely working to be an inclusive church. We appreciate and embrace people of different gifts, races, languages, and traditions as members of our congregation.
We are a family-centered church. We encourage worship as families. And we believe that the church is the family of God, a spiritual family. We come together as natural families and as singles to form this spiritual family. We believe God has established a covenant with us, promising to be our God and to love us as a family.
We believe that all Christians are God's servants, wherever God has placed them. Whether we work in the classroom, the factory, the farm, or the church, whether we attend school or stay at home, we use the gifts of ministry that God has given us to invite others to share with us in the blessings of His kingdom.
